Akagera National Park

Akagera National Park is Rwanda’s premier savannah safari destination, known for its diverse wildlife and stunning landscapes of open plains, lakes, and rolling hills. The park is home to the famous Big Five — lions, elephants, rhinos, leopards, and buffaloes — making it one of the best safari experiences in East Africa. Boat safaris along Lake Ihema offer close encounters with hippos, crocodiles, and colorful birdlife, while game drives reveal giraffes, zebras, antelopes, and many other animals roaming freely across the wilderness.

The park’s restoration and conservation success story has transformed Akagera into a thriving wildlife sanctuary. Visitors enjoy peaceful scenery mixed with exciting wildlife experiences, creating a balance between relaxation and adventure. Sunrise and sunset safaris are especially spectacular as golden light spreads across the savannah. Akagera’s combination of wetlands, forests, and grasslands makes it one of Rwanda’s most unique and rewarding national parks.
